Why did you decide to run for election? |
When the long time county board member in our district decided not to run for re-election, I thought I would run and hope to make a difference. Since I taught American Government, I hoped I knew what the purpose of government should be. For years, I always told students they should get involved. As a result, when I retired from teaching, I thought I should also.

What has been the most surprising thing you have learned from the people you have met while campaigning? |
Surprisingly, I've discovered most people are uninformed about the various levels of government. Many of them do not know the difference between city, county, and township government. They do not know who has certain responsibilities for them.

How do you plan to further engage residents to increase transparency of your office if elected? |
The best thing I've always followed is to make myself available to the people. I've continued to put my home phone in the telephone book. Along with this, the county has my cell phone on their web site.

What about running for office is more difficult than you thought it would be? |
The only aspect that I've found in running for office that's difficult is the cost. It takes money and the political parties cannot help that much. One must raise their own money to campaign. Actually the time spent walking and knocking on doors takes time, but it's usually the most enjoyable.

What is your favorite part about living in Central Illinois? |
Without a doubt, it's the people you meet along the way. Friendship is one of the most valuable things you can develop in a lifetime.
